Wrangham Family

This family is included with the Strang(e)wayes families because it forms the later generations of the tree that starts with Thomas of South House - himself part of the main Yorkshire pedigree.

“... Welburn belonging to the representatives of the late Rev John Robinson of Welburn AM Rector of Epvvorth in Lincolnshire whose grandfather acquired it by marriage with the heiress of the family of Gibson of Welburn The Rev John Robinson was the last male branch of the ancient house of Strangeways formerly of great note in this county and in other parts of the kingdom who took the name of Robinson in the beginning of the last century on inheriting the estates of the Robinsons of Thornton Riseborough By his death in 1801 his estates became the property of his three nieces the Miss Cayleys daughters of the Rev Digby Cayley Rector of Thurnamby and sons of Sir George Cayley late of Brompton who married Elizabeth sister of the Rev John Robinson These three ladies are established as follows Lucy the eldest is married to Arthur Cayley Esq first cousin of the present Sir George Cayley of Brompton Dorothy is married to the Rev Francis Wrangham AM and FSA Rector of Hunmanby in the East Riding and Frances the youngest to Thomas Smith MD The burial place of the family of the Robinson's was in Kirkdale Church and there are several elegant monuments erected in the chancel to the memory of the Gibsons Robinsons and Cayleys” from The beauties of England and Wales...Volume 16 by John Bigland 1812
