In an effort to simplify the processes the option to set-up a new user account has been removed. Existing users should still be able to access everything as before.
Anyone looking for any family info that is currently shown as confidential or restricted can get in touch via e-mail for access.
Despite making changes the internal e-mail service is still failing to get messages out to users - and to me.
So send any messages directly to me at info@townsley.info via your normal e-mail app - and this also means that user registrations have to be suspended until it is resolved.
Sorry to be quiet for so long but busy on other projects; including switching my local PC genealogy software from Personal Ancestral File (PAF) to Ancestral Quest.
And unknown to me when Webtrees was re-installed recently all your messages (and login requests) were simply stored rather than being forwarded for action and replies. Today the complexities of getting e-mails to be sent out correctly seem to have been overcome ... I think.
I will now work through the backlog of messages that have been accumulated - and apologies for not spotting the problems sooner.
After considerable delays and restarts I will tempt fate a say that the latest Townsley Extended and Strangways-Towneley family trees are now available on line.
But just to repeat they are now separated into two different web sites - each containing just one tree.
The process involved creating new databases which in turn meant starting again with new logins. Apologies if you were told that your logins that had worked before were declined. However - as before - the vast majority of the records are available with having to sign in.
Hopefully the extra database space will mean that the issue does not arise in the future.
Finally all of this data is freely available without any form of funding or sponsorship purely by my own efforts. If one day it stops or disappears it will mean that I have run out of cash or joined the ancestors ...

With little prospect of further reductions in the total size of our two large family trees the only practical solution is to set up a second copy of Webtrees. This would leave the current Townsley Extended tree here - and set-up the Strangways-Towneley tree with links from the StrangewayFamily website.
Also Webtrees has now been updated to version 1.7.13 and the family records data reloaded as at today.
Tree 2 - the Strangways-Towneley section remains offline since the errors found yesterday were most likely caused by the total database size having exceeded the 1Gb limit set by our ISP. This means that only the Townsley Extended tree is available online and that the landed gentry and peerage tree is currently only available as a download. Creating a separate database for the Strangways-Towneley records is the most likely solution.
After being unable to use the Webtrees database today and having no obvious fix to get things working again the whole database has been recreated from scratch.
Tree 1 - Townsley Extended should now be fully online
Tree 2 - Strangways-Towneley is being checked but should be available soon.
However starting again means that you will have to re-register to access some recent family details.
